Other Testing Options

Testing with a doctor’s referral

You can get tested at SHSO (State Health Services Organisation, aka OKYPY) laboratories across Cyprus or at private laboratories contracted with the GHS (General Healthcare System, aka GeSY), using a referral from your personal doctor or from a specialist doctor (venereologist, urologist, dermatologist, infectious diseases specialist or gynaecologist).

  • The test is not anonymous. You will need to pay a small copayment

  • You will be asked tο confirm your identity (full name, date of birth, ID number)

  • The results are recorded in the GHS system (National Health System)

Testing without a doctor’s referral

You can get tested without a referral at any SHSO or private laboratory, whether they operate under the GHS or not.

  • The test is not anonymous. You will need to pay the full cost

  • You will be asked tο confirm your identity  (full name, date of birth, ID number)

  • The results are not recorded in the GHS system (National Health System)

* Window period

When your test result is negative, it is important to know that there is a period called the “window period”, during which a recent infection cannot yet be detected.

  • For example, rapid antibody tests have a window period of three months, which means they do not detect a possible transmission that happened within the last three months before the test date.

  • For other types of tests, we recommend asking the laboratory to inform you about the specific window period.
